The Eastern Enlargement of 2004 was the fifth and so far biggest enlargement of the European Union. With effect from 1st May 2004, 10 new members joined the European alliance of states.
For Frankfurt an der Oder this enlargement – especially with the accession of Poland – meant the change of a location at the external border of the EU to a German-Polish twin city with big potential as intermodal hub in East-West-traffic.
Now, 10 years after the enlargement, together with you we want to discuss the results of these changes for the border-crossing freight transport and give an outlook to future chances and challenges.
